WHO WE ARE
The Institute for Capital Market Research Malaysia (ICMR) is an initiative by the Securities Commission Malaysia, funded by the Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF) as an independent think tank, dedicated toward conducting research projects and thematic studies related to overall capital market development. Aligned with Securities Commission’s Capital Market Masterplans, ICMR through its mandate, promotes for the development of an inclusive, resilient and sustainable Malaysian capital market which benefits the overall economy.
The increased complexities and interconnectedness of global capital markets today as well as the unprecedented pace of changes will significantly affect the capital market landscape of the future. COVID-19 is likely to accelerate these structural shifts impacting capital market development and the critical role it plays in enabling the flow of capital for the economy. Recognising the fast-changing environment, ICMR supports capital market development through providing independent, focused and pragmatic research, advocacy and data-driven perspectives which can be tapped by the industry, policy makers and regulators.
It conducts its work based on a multi-stakeholder and collaborative approach, drawing insights and best practices from international experts as well as recognising the lessons and harnessing the knowledge and experience of Malaysia’s regulators, policy makers, industry players and academia. Innovation, collaboration, continuous learning and knowledge-sharing are the foundational pillars in the way ICMR conducts its work.
The ICMR was established on the 3rd November 2017 as a company limited by guarantee under the Companies Act 2016.
OUR OBJECTIVES
to develop understanding of current practices and future needs in capital market services specifically and financial services more generally, with a particular focus on identifying emerging trends and new growth opportunities;
to act as a catalyst by bringing together relevant participants and stakeholders to explore ideas, share knowledge and encouraging collaboration between thought leaders and experts in finance, regulation and academia.
