Webinar on Retail Investor Behaviour: 2020 and Beyond
12 April 2021 | 3 – 4 PM
2020 was undoubtedly an unusual year for many reasons. The pandemic and ensuing global lockdown led to serious concerns about the shape of the overall economy, including unemployment, the viability of smaller businesses and government stimulus responses. However, the reaction in the capital market seems to tell a different story.
Globally and in Malaysia, retail participation reached record highs. Headlines abounded with reports of surges in retail account openings, particularly for digital trading apps. A new wave of investors, younger and digitally-savvy, entered the capital market. Due to these new developments, ICMR is keen to explore this issue in more depth through unpacking questions such as:
- What does the retail investor patterns we saw in 2020 say about investor behaviour?
- How does the shift towards digital investment apps and social media change the way we think about retail investors?
- How can we strike a balance between making investment accessible and risk-taking behaviour in the long term?
A summary of our notes from the webinar can be found here.
Additionally, the webinar received media coverage from The Star and The Malaysian Reserve, both available on their respective links.
